Background

Portrait of Ruin is the first Castlevania game to have a cooperative multi-player gameplay mode, and the first of the series on a handheld console to have English voice-overs. Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin is a continuation from Castlevania: Bloodlines.

Plot

The two playable characters, Jonathan Morris, a vampire hunter and Charlotte Aulin a young sorceress, were friends as children, both had a background coming from clans dedicated to fighting against evil. The game takes place in 1944. Both Jonathan and Charlotte must work together to stop Brauner, a vampire with an evil plot. A lot of the story takes place in Dracula's castle, but there are other areas to visit throughout the game.

Gameplay

In Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, the tradition continues of the game being a 2D scroller game. You will be able to switch between two playable characters, and at time use their abilities together to create powerful combo attacks. These two characters are Jonathan and Charlotte. There are a variety of environments to visit, over 150 enemies to defeat, and many skills to obtain and items to collect. Some of these items are exclusive to which of the two characters you are playing as. It is possible to connect over Wifi to participate in co-op mode and shop mode.
