[edit] Background

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is a direct sequel to Rondo of Blood(1993). The game is notable for introducing RPG elements and a strong focus on exploration to the series. These two aspects would become vital mainstays in future tiles in the Castlevania series with games like Circle of the Moon(2001) and Aria of Sorrow(2003).

Symhony of the Night was also the first game in the series to feature a hero that was not related to the Belmont Clan. Instead, Alucard (the son of Dracula himself) was the central character throughout the entire story. Richter Belmont appears as a playable character briefly at the beginning of the game, recapping the events at the end of Rondo of Blood. Alucard had previously been a playable character in Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse(1990).

[edit] Plot

Five years have passed since Richter Belmont destroyed Dracula in 1792, and less than a year prior has gone missing. Concerned about his safety, Richter's sister-in-law Maria Renard (Now 17 and a formidable warrior) has set out on a quest to find him. Meanwhile, Castlevania has risen again causing Alucard to awaken from what he thought would be an eternal slumber.
