Castlevania uses Heart icons as ammunition for Sub-Weapons throughout the series. In most games the heart symbol is used as health replenishment.

Hearts are used to fuel the Glyph Union ability where Shanoa may combine two glyphs together to perform a more powerful attack.

The Heart Gauge can be replenished through the use of items, finding them in broken candles, or by using the Heart Container in Wygol Village.

Shanoa may increase her Heart Gauge maximum capacity by obtaining HEART Max Ups which are only found in special chests littered through the countryside.
