Background
Julius Belmont is a warrior hero of the Belmont family, sworn enemies of Dracula. He's the one who defeated Dracula in 1999 and attempts to stop him again later on during a resurrection.
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
After his climatic battle with Dracula, Julius Belmont started suffering from amnesia and could not remember something as simple as his own name. Some how, by a strange feeling, he ends up at Dracula's Castle. It's here he begins looking for the pieces of the puzzle to recovering his memory. When he does, he comes to the relisation that Soma Cruz is the reincarnation of Dracula, bringing him to rely on the aid of the Vampire Killer Whip to eliminate the new threat. They end up fighting, with Soma winning due to Julius purposely losing, as he figured out that Soma had some good in him and wanted to help release it from imprisonment behind the darkness. Soma recovers, splitting himself from the influence of Dracula. He then asks Julius that, should he fail, he'll finish it for him.
Julius Belmont is also a playable character, as long as you put in JULIUS at the name entry screen. Julius can't obtain new weapons, souls or even levels (but is at a high level to begin with). This makes him a very hard character to use and is seen as an "ultimate difficulty" for players to aspire to.
Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
Genya Arikado and Yoko Belnades join in the story, helping Julius Belmont as he hunts down Celia Fortner, who plans to resurrect Dracula with one of two males born at the time Julius defeated Dracula in 1999. He meets Soma a couple of times inside Dracula's Castle, the second time Soma tells him about the plot with Dmitrii Blinov and Dario Bossi and who would become the new host by choice of Celia. Celia infuses a demon soul with Dario, who Julius pursues as Genya helps out by going after Celia. Julius loses his battle to Dario and has to be saved by Soma. Later on, there's a barrier which needs to be broken if they are to continue there quest. Julius summons all his power to break it, leaving himself defenceless as he tells Soma to go on after Dmitrii and Celia. His final appearance is at the end of the game, where he jokes at Soma about his new girlfriend.
Not equipping the Mina's Talisman during the trick by Celia allows you to unlock Julius Mode and play through the game as Julius. In this one, unlike in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, you can progress with Julius meaning you aren't stuck at the same level. He also has two people join him on his quest, being Yoko Belnades and Alucard.
