Background

Richter Belmont is a very powerful Belmont family member. His girfriend, Annette Renard, was kidnapped by a horde of Dracula's evil army. Richter set out to rescue her and defeat the newly-revived Dracula. Unfortunately, Richter would soon fall under the influence of an evil wizard named Shaft. Awakened from this toxic sway by Alucard with the help of Maria, Richter allied with Dracula's son and set out to revenge upon the Vampire Lord.

Although Richter Belmont is dead by the time of the game Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, he still plays a role in the plot. Jonathan Morris is the latest hero on the scene, but is hopeless when it comes to wielding the Vampire Killer. After saving Loretta and Stella from the evil curse of vampirism, they send him to an alternate world where he is confronted by the memory of Richter. Richter fights him with various weapons including the sub weapon Cross and this makes Jonathan able to wield the Vampire Killer in a very powerful way upon winning.
